Marcelle Whitley

Marcelle Whitley passed away Sunday, January 13, at Woodhaven Court Assisted Living Center, where she had celebrated her 94th birthday on Nov. 23, 2018.
Marcelle graduated from Albemarle High School and Shelby School of Nursing, both with high honors.
Her career took her to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, where she also did work on her B.S. degree, Carolinas Medical Center Main Branch in Charlotte and back home to Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle.
She was a delivery nurse and would often say, “Be good to the children; they never asked to be born.”
She was a care giver to her parents, Clifford Whitley and Lillie Morris Whitley, who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Bill Whitley and Byron Whitley.
She loved trees, dance, reading and word puzzles.
She was a member of Albemarle Wesleyan Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
A service in her memory will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2:00 at Albemarle Wesleyan Church, officiated by the pastor, James Valk.
Marcelle had lived a full, well loved and respected life and it was an honor for Jan, Mike and Christy to be with her on her Homegoing Celebration Day.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice and/or Albemarle Wesleyan Church.
A heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Woodhaven and Community Hospice for their thoughtful and loving care.
She is survived by her nephew, Mike Whitley, and his wife, Christy, niece Jan Morrison, great nephew Stephen Whitley, great nieces Amy Cohen and husband Robert, Marimarie Morrison, great-great nieces Riley Cohen, Jules Cohen and great-great nephew Jake Cohen.
