Pastor Charles Edward Bowers of Albemarle passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in Atrium Stanly.
His funeral service will be 3 PM Friday, December 21 2018 at Sweet Home Baptist Church with Rev. Preston Young, Rev. Nathan Hammill and brother Buck Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
Born March 21, 1933 in Stanly County, NC he was the son of the late Barney and Naralee Poplin Bowers and was the founder of Sweet Home Baptist Church 41 years ago. He served as pastor of the church for 33 years.
He was also a department head at Collins and Aikman for many years.
Rev. Bowers was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife Elvene “Miss Toot” Burleson Bowers of the home, sons Rick Bowers (Kelly) of Albemarle and Jeff Bowers (Aimee) of New London and daughter Angela Talotta (Frank) of Myrtle Beach, SC, brother Ted Bowers of New London, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
