A 73-year-old Stanfield man suffered a medical condition after a masked gunman burst into a home and robbed the family Sunday night, according to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.
Ted R. Huneycutt was taken to Carolinas Medical Center – Stanly for what might have been a heart attack. He suffered the attack during the 8:30 p.m. armed robbery in his home.
The gunman, also wearing gloves, came into the Huneycutt home at 4240 Yow Road and ordered Huneycutt, his wife and two teenage relatives to the floor while stealing items from the house, Sheriff Jeff Crisco said.
Investigators have few leads in the armed robbery while Huneycutt remains hospitalized. They’re waiting to talk to Huneycutt for more leads.
“I don’t know what’s been taken,” Crisco said.
Investigators are waiting to talk with Huneycutt to learn what the robber targeted in the home.
So far Crisco believes the crime was random.
“I want to say it was random,” he said. “Mr and Mrs. Huneycutt are respectable people. They knew everybody and everybody knew them.”
Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office is appealing to the public for help. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Stanly County Crime Stoppers at 704-982-0711.
Ted Huneycutt’s brother, Donald, died Dec. 5 and was buried the day before the break-in and robbery. The teenage victims were Donald Huneycutt’s grandchildren, Crisco added.
