Albemarle attorney Jim Phillips was sworn in Tuesday morning as the newest member on the Stanly County Board of Elections.
Phillips was appointed by the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement following the recommendation of Stanly County Republican Party Chairman Phil Burr.
Phillips’ appointment follows his wife’s resignation from the BOE. Karmen Mock-Phillips recently resigned from the board, citing a possible conflict of interest. She was recently named a Stanly County magistrate.
Jim Phillips was quickly chosen as chairman of the BOE, a post Mock-Phillips also held before her resignation. Tuesday morning marked his first BOE meeting.
Burr’s other recommendation for the BOE was county Commissioner Joseph Burleson.
