Surveillance photos along with the help of the community and surrounding law enforcement agencies helped Albemarle police identity a suspect in a jewelry store theft.
Albemarle police announced Monday they are looking for Reginald Bernard Weathers, 34, of Charlotte in Wednesday’s theft at Kay Jewelers. An arrest warrant has been issued for Weathers for felonious larceny, according to police.
Weathers entered the Leonard Avenue store posing as a customer. Once he got the sales associate to show him a large gold chain, he then snatched the chain valued at $3,400. He next fled the store and entered a silver-colored Dodge Charger before heading east on N.C. Highway 24-27 Bypass, police said.
A security camera captured images of Weathers that clearly showed his face, long dreadlocks and attire during the theft.
Albemarle police expressed gratitude toward the community for helping with the quick identification of Weathers as the suspect.
Albemarle investigators are working with Mecklenburg County police at trying to locate Weathers’ present whereabouts.
