An Albemarle man was involuntary committed for a mental health evaluation after a police standoff.
At 11:29 a.m. Saturday police responded to calls about shots fired on Honeysuckle Lane. Once on the scene, the shooter barricaded himself inside his residence. Officers contacted the 32-year-old subject multiple times via telephone before he finally surrendered at 1:06 p.m. without further incident, according to Maj. Jesse Huneycutt, assistant police chief.
The subject, who police are not identifying because of his mental health status, was transported to the hospital for an involuntary commitment, Huneycutt said.
