Locust eyes 30 new jobs

Friday, February 9, 2012 — The Locust branch of Cabarrus Family Medicine will soon be expanding to a new building, according to James Inman, city administrator of Locust.

“We have been working with Cabarrus Family Medicine for about six weeks and the permits were issued Friday,” Inman said.

Currently, Cabarrus Family Medicine operates an office in a wing of the Stanly Regional West campus, where it has been housed since 2008.

In the coming months, though, the medical office will be expanding to a nearly 8,000-square-foot facility. Construction is projected to begin in early March and be completed by mid-July, according to Beth Lewis, office manager for the Locust branch of Cabarrus Family Medicine.

“We look forward to being able to continue serving the community in Stanly County and specifically in Locust,” Lewis said.

The new building will also provide space for two additional doctors, which would increase the number of practicing physicians in the office to four. Other plans for the new building include the addition of an onsite laboratory, and will create approximately 30 new jobs.

“We are excited to have this new facility under way in Locust,” Mayor Scott Efird said.

“Locust continues to grow and expand our community and our workforce in every sector of the job market. This new facility will bring over 30 new jobs to Locust and we are thankful to the great people at Cabarrus Family Medicine group for their investment in our city.”
