Two nabbed in drug bust

Monday, November 5, 2012 — Two men are in the Stanly County Jail on drug and weapons charges after being arrested by officers of the Norwood Police Department (NPD).

According to a report by the NPD, officers stopped a vehicle and found nine bags of marijuana, a bag of powder cocaine and a 9mm handgun.

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Frederick Douglas Rush Jr. of Albemarle and Shantez Rickey Craig of Monroe.

Charges included felony possession of cocaine, simple possession of schedule II (hydrocodone), possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Craig was also arrested on warrants from Union County for misdemeanor larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and assault on a female.

Both men were placed on a $5,000 bond and remain in custody at the Stanly County Jail.

Rush is scheduled in District Court Nov. 6 and 13 for these and previous charges and probation violations. He is also scheduled for Superior Court Nov. 5.

Craig has a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 6 in District Court.
