Police officer arrested for safecracking, larceny

Thursday, March 1, 2012 — A local police officer is facing safecracking and other charges after his arrest Thursday.

Phillip Mark Thompson, of 768 Faith St., Oakboro, an officer with the Misenheimer Police Department, was arrested March 1. He was charged with felony safecracking and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.

Information regarding his current status with the police department, as well as information about the incident could not be released, according to Misenheimer Police Chief Erik McGinnis.

“This is being handled as a personnel matter so there is nothing I can release at this time,” McGinnis said.
