Friday, December 7, 2012 — However, in conjunction with the Stanly County Animal Rescue League and the Humane Society, the Stanly County Arts Guild is hosting the “Let’s Undecorate the Tree” event and they’re starting the undecorating weeks before the end of Christmas.
For bringing in a bag of food for the animals, one can receive a handmade ornament.
“Members of the Stanly County Arts Guild made all of the ornaments,” said Jackie Layman, a spokesperson for the organization and representative of the Undecorate the Tree event.
“Last year, the pet food was piled up all around the Christmas tree. I think we had in excess of 200 pounds,” said Layman.
“They can bring in cat food, dog food, toys, bedding or litter, and if they make a donation, they can have an ornament. Cash donations are also acceptable.”
Layman relayed that they had about 75 ornaments from the tree to give away, thus the public has a limited opportunity to get one of these ornaments.
“This is a good cause for our furry friends. Every year it gets bigger. People are more aware that we are sponsoring this event. It’s spreading by word of mouth,” said Layman.
This is the fifth year the event has taken place, and with its growing success, there isn’t any reason to believe it won’t happen next year, as well.
The event will run through Dec. 22. To participate, just bring in a bag of pet food to the Falling Rivers Gallery and place it under the tree.
