Thursday, March 11, 2010 — In anticipation of the June 30 retirement of its longtime executive director, Vicki Coggins, Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation (ADDC) has named a search committee to seek and screen candidates for the position.
Coggins has been in the position 20 years, having assumed that role when the organization was established in 1990.
The executive director reports to the ADDC Board of Directors, members of which are appointed by the Albemarle City Council.
Albemarle’s ADDC is a non-profit 501 C (3) corporation affiliated with the North Carolina Main Street Program.
Chris Bramlett, chairman of the ADDC Board of Directors, issued the following statement concerning the search:
“In keeping with the general functions delineated by the North Carolina Main Street Center, applicants should have education and experience relevant to the Main Street mission. The successful candidate will be expected to (1) initiate and promote programs to improve, preserve and enhance downtown Albemarle and promote the improvement, overall appearance and economic vitality of the area; (2) coordinate activities within the downtown revitalization program that utilizes historic preservation as an integral foundation for downtown economic development; and (3) assume responsibility for the development, conduct, execution and documentation of the Main Street program.”
The search committee did not designate a closing date for applications, choosing instead to continue to receive and review applications until such time as the position is filled.
The ADDC office is in the new Albemarle City Hall which opened earlier this year.
Persons interested in learning more about the position vacancy should visit the ADDC Web site www.albemarledowntown.com. The Web site has the application forms that can be downloaded for submission to the search committee through the office of the Albemarle City Manager.
