Investigation by the Rowan County Sheriff's Department is continuing into the Monday afternoon drowning of a 16-month-old boy in High Rock Lake behind his home.
Logan Rabon was found in about four feet of water after a sheriff's canine tracked him to the water's edge. He had been under about 35 minutes.
The deputy who pulled him out immediately began CPR and efforts to save the child's life continued after he was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at at 4:02 p.m.
According to Acting Sheriff Kevin Auten the mother was doing something inside the house. The father was also home. When they realized the child was missing they called 911. The child was last seen inside the house.
The parents searched the house and were looking outside with the help of a neighbor. The back door of the house was open.
The 911 Center dispatched the Rowan County Rescue Squad and boats from Gold Hill Fire Department and Miller's Ferry Fire Department, as well as the Rowan Country Sheriff's Office assisted in the search. The NC State Highway Patrol helicopter provided assistance in the search. Many neighbors who live on the lake aided in the search.
