The wrestling teams of South Stanly and Forest Hills met on Thursday night at West Stanly for a tri-match. The Jackets and Colts wrestled first, with the Bulls and Jackets going second on the night. The match wrapped up with the Colts and Bulls.
West Stanly 49
South Stanly 28
The Bulls crept close and nearly took the lead midway through the match, but pinfall wins at 113 and 120 pounds lifted West to a 49-28 win over South.
Starting at 145 pounds, West’s Jonathan Lord pinned Camden Diggs in :50 and Wesley Gordon made it two in a row for West at 152 pounds with a pinfall win over Montrell Brewer.
At 160 pounds, Freddy Vences of South earned a 16-15 decision win over West’s Mark Balmas to make the overall team score 12-3.
Clint Gibson pinned South’s Michael Furr in the 170-pound match in 3:57 to give West an 18-3 match lead.
At 182 pounds, South’s Sawyer Bartlett earned a 10-9 decision over West’s Erikcel Ramirez, while West’s Luke Alexander topped South’s Jareth Baldwin at 195.
In the 220-pound match, Brandon Lowery gave South a decision win over West’s Brian Ramirez 6-3.
South got two forfeit wins at 285 and 105 to pull to within 3 at 24-21 before West extended their lead in the 113-pound match when Pavin Chunn pinned South’s Christian Honeycutt in 1:23.
Nathan Marlow earned a pinfall win for West in 2:52 over South’s Patrick Cruz at 120, and West’s Jonathan Surratt pinned Dashun Holt of South at 126 pounds.
Jordan Carpenter gave South a forfeit win at 132 pounds, and Jordan Blake wrapped up the win for the Colts with a pinfall win in the 128-pound matchup against South’s Rassoul Parsons.
South Stanly 42
Forest Hills 39
Needing two pinfall wins to take the match, the Rebel Bulls got exactly what they needed in the 132 and 138 pound matches in a 42-39 win over Forest Hills.
Jordan Carpenter’s pinfall win in :51 over Forest Hills’ Seth Whitley at 132 pounds, combined with Dakota Lewellen’s 1:43 pinfall win in the 138-pound match over Landon Allen, gave the Bulls 12 points and lifted South to the team win.
South also got pinfall wins from Diggs, Vences, Bartlett, Cody Shields and, Honeycutt in the win.
Forest Hills 37
West Stanly 24
The visiting Jackets rallied from an early deficit to earn a win over RRC opponent West Stanly by the score of 37-24.
The Colts started the match with pinfall wins from Jonathan Blake and Jonathan Lord at 138 and 145, respectively, as well as Wesley Gordon’s 160-pound win early and led the overall match by a score of 15-6.
Forest Hills won the next six decisions to claim the match.
Nathan Marlow (126) earned a decision win for West and Jonathan Surratt (132) got a pinfall win for the Colts to end the match.
