The high school swimming season continued over the past two weeks with a swim meet at the Stanly County Family YMVC on Dec. 6.
December 6
Girls
At the Stanly YMCA on Dec. 6, Piedmont’s girls took first, with CATA in second, followed by North Stanly, Albemarle, Forest Hills, West Stanly, North Rowan, South Stanly and East Montgomery.
Albemarle’s Bailey Holshouser took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.44, nearly 34 seconds ahead of North’s Elizabeth Hudson. The Bulldogs swimmer also won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:01.23.
Whitney Throneburg of North was first in the 200-yard IM in 2:45.68, and Jenna Huff gave the Comets a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Throneburg also took second in the 100-yard backstroke, while Huff was first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Boys
Central Academy took first in the team event, followed by North Rowan, Piedmont, West Stanly, Albemarle, Forest Hills and East Montgomery.
James Hathcock took first place for West Stanly in the 200-yard IM, winning by 20 seconds and finishing in a time of 2:35.20. He also took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.97, winning by 11 seconds.
Colt swimmer Collin Hartmann took second place in the 100-yard backstroke race, and Igor Bayluk took second in the 500-yard freestyle race for West Stanly.

Intimidators, GreenJackets postponed
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 11, 2013) -- Monday evening's game between the Kannapolis Intimidators and Augusta GreenJackets has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The teams will make up the game on Tuesday, June 11, as part of a doubleheader comprising two 7-inning games starting at 5 p.m. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
