In a non-conference doubleheader on Monday night, the Pfeiffer women’s baketball squad hosted Mars Hill while the Falcon men hosted Lincoln (Pa.) University.

Backed by a game-high 25 points from Brittany Cox and a team shooting percentage of 48 percent, host Pfeiffer dispatched visiting Mars Hill College 84-58 in non-conference women’s basketball action on Monday night.
The Falcons outscored the Lions 57-33 in the second half and 37-11 over the final 10 minutes.
With 10:43 left in the game and the score tied 47-47, the Falcons (5-1) started their game-ending run. A pair of free throws and a layup by Jodie Lemons got the ball rolling before a Cox three capped off a 12-0 run just over two minutes later. Free throws by Christina Harvey and Kellie Rhoney kept the Pfeiffer lead at a dozen heading into the final five minutes before the Falcons completed the 26-point victory with a 21-7 spurt to end the contest. Lemons and Rhoney would lead the way down the stretch scoring 15 of the 21 points combined.
Earlier in the first half, Brittney Washington (help give Pfeiffer a four-point, 11-7 lead with 11:51 remaining on two of her six points on the night while the Lions’ Cadence Wilmoth put Mars Hill (1-5) up four with 6:37 to play. A pair of Cox triples would spark an 8-0 run after Wilmoth’s basket before a pair of Ansley Ricker free throws and layup by Katie Buckner trimmed the halftime deficit down to just two as Pfeiffer held a 27-25 lead at the break.
Cox dropped in her 25 points on a season-high 9-of-14 shooting (64 percent) hitting four of seven shots from behind the arc. Harvey followed with another monster double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Rhoney and Lemons with 14 and 13 respectively.
Pfeiffer shot 59 percent in the second half and outscored Mars Hill 44-18 in the paint and use 31 points off the bench.
The Falcons will play their final home game before the holiday break at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night hosting Barber-Scotia.
Monday night’s non-conference tilt between Lincoln University and Pfeiffer would eventually be decided by free throws as the Lions shot 76% percent from the charity stripe claiming a 65-55 victory over the Falcons inside the Merner Gym.
The Lions (5-1) busted out to a quick 25-11 lead 7:45 into Monday night as a tip-in by Kyle Aiken helped the visitors jump out to that 14-point lead.
After a three by George Jackson later made it a 15-point advantage, a pair of threes by Josh Humphrey and Tayron Gibson helped the Falcons slice the lead down to 10 at the break as the Lions led 32-22.
In the second half, Pfeiffer (1-6) would get as close as nine on four different occasions but couldn’t convert free throws or key shots to get the contest into a two possession game. A triple by Matt Ellwood would the first Falcon to get the deficit back into single digits with 14:01 to play.
A pair of Humphrey free throws did the same at the 5:01 mark while Carrington Kirkpatrick hit the back end of his two attempts to make it a 59-50 game with 85 seconds remaining. Kenny Sharpe and George Jackson would convert the Lions’ final six free throw attempts to hold on for the ten point win.
Humphrey led the Falcons with another double-double scoring 13 with 14 boards while Gibson chipped in 12.
Pfeiffer shot 46 percent from the field in the loss while the Lions managed to shoot at a 40 percent clip. The Falcons would also hold the rebound margin 36-28. Lincoln did manage to convert 20 Pfeiffer turnovers into 22 points on the offensive end.
Next up for the Falcons will be a home contest with Barber-Scotia at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
