A walk-off win in game one followed by a come-from-behind victory in game two let Pfeiffer open up the 2013 season with a sweep over Winston-Salem State on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Falcons used a walk-off base hit by Khristin Isley in the opener followed by a go-ahead two-run double from Jaclyn Boever in the nightcap.
After the Rams (0-4) struck for two early runs in the top of the first, the Lady Falcons started their own work at the plate a half-inning later as an Ashlee Ellen sacrifice fly brought home Celia Dew for the season’s first run. In the third, Pfeiffer would grab a 3-2 lead as a Hannah Jackson RBI-single squared the contest before Jackson plated the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
After Winston-Salem State scored the game-tying third run in the fourth, starter Lindsey Russell helped herself out starting the seventh with a triple to right-center. Isley would soon follow with a hard-hit infield single to second scoring pinch-runner Sadie Saine (Crouse, NC) with the game-winner. Russell would go the distance picking up the win allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts. Dew, Boever and Isley would each collect a pair of hits in the win.
Pfeiffer struck first in the nightcap with an Ellen RBI groundout in the bottom of the first. A three-run fifth open up a quiet second game for the Rams before the Lady Falcons responded with their four-run fifth. Isley started with a single to right followed by a Dew walk.
After a quick first out, Jackson would fly out to right in which Isley would just barely beat the tag at third as both her and Dew moved to second and third. Ellen followed with a game-tying two-run single to center while Boever came up with a two-out double off the fence in left for the game’s final runs. Sam Jarmusch made her collegiate debut picking up a complete-game allowing three unearned runs on five hits. Jarmusch would fan four in the victory.
