Falcons extend win streak at Belmont Abbey

Thursday, January 10, 2013 — The Pfeiffer women's basketball team poured in 46 first half points and dropped nine three-pointers en route to a comfortable 67-46 victory at Belmont Abbey on Tuesday.

The Falcons push their winning-streak to a season-high five, improving to 9-1 overall, 4-1 in league play, while the Crusaders fall to 5-5, 4-2.

Pfeiffer took control off the opening tip as a Jodie Lemons layup gave the Falcons their one and only lead of the night 1:54 into the contest. Tied 17-17 with 10:26 to play in the half, Pfeiffer blasted off on a 27-5 run to close out the half with a 22-point, 46-24 halftime lead.

Lemons had 11 of those 27 points while Carter Williams connected on back-to-back threes. Caressa Samuel contributed late by draining five points off the bench over the final 1:33.

Brittany Cox jumped start the second half with a jumper 35 seconds in to help push the lead up to 24. Pfeiffer's largest lead of the night came during a six-point run with reigning Conference Carolinas player of the week Christina Harvey scoring four of the six as the Falcons found themselves up 57-31 with 10:44 to play.

A pair of Morgan Midkill free throws trimmed Belmont Abbey's deficit down to 16 with 6:46 left before Lemons, Kellie Rhoney and Bridget Rothert scored the Falcons’ final 10 points cruising to the 21-point win.

Lemons led all scorers on the night scoring 17 while Williams followed with 14. Williams was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor which includes connecting on all four three-point attempts. Rhoney added 10 points offensively and Harvey pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Pfeiffer will look to tie a school record their next time out on Saturday at King. A win would push the Falcons to 10-1, tying the best start in school history.
