Jodie Lemons scored 22 points hitting six three-pointers as Pfeiffer defeated host Catawba College 78-76 victory in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Falcons move to 7-1 overall winning their third-straight heading into the winter break. Catawba evens to 4-4 with the loss.
Saturday's contest went back and forth all afternoon long featuring 10 lead changes. Pfeiffer held the lead for a majority of the first half going up five early after a Christina Harvey layup 4:05 in.
Mallory Clay turned around to give Catawba a three-point lead midway through the first scoring two of her nine points on the day before a Lemons three and pair of free throws by Kaela Bellefeuil put the Lady Falcons back up five. Catawba's Chloe Bully knocked down a jumper with five second left in the first half to put Catawba up 30-29 at the break.
Second half separation for the Lady Falcons came in a two-minute stretch as Lemons was on fire knocking down three triples keeping a six-point lead for the visitors. Bridget Rothert also hit a three in that two-minute stretch.
Lemons would give Pfeiffer their largest lead of the afternoon with another three at the 1:17 mark of the second half as Catawba would make things interesting over the final 77 seconds.
A long-range three by Quaneasia Coleman and Bully started the Lady Indians rally before a pair of Elizabeth Merritt free throws after a Coleman steal cut it to three, 77-74 with 13 ticks left. After a crucial free throw by Kellie Rhoney, a final basket at the buzzer by Merritt would end the contest as Pfeiffer held on for the two-point win.
Behind Lemons' game-high 22, Brittany Cox followed with 18 while Harvey and Rothert came up with 15 and 11 respectively. The Lady Falcons shot 38 percent from the field in the win despite Catawba shooting 40 percent.
The advantage came from behind the arc as the Lady Falcons hit on 13 threes connecting for 39 percent. Pfeiffer also hit on 87percent on their attempts from the charity stripe (13-of-15).
Bully would lead the Lady Indians with 16 points.
The Lady Falcons now head into the winter break with their 7-1 mark not stepping on the hardwood again until Saturday, Jan. 5.
The first Saturday in January will feature the Falcons hosting Erskine College in Conference Carolinas action inside the Merner Gym. Tip-time will be at 2 p.m.
