Tuesday, August 31, 2010 — For week two of the 2010 high school football season, the Stanly News and Press Most Valuable Player of the Week is North Stanly quarterback Jalen Holt.
In the Comets's 25-7 win over South Stanly last Friday night, Holt had five completed passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, leading North Stanly to their first victory over the Rebel Bulls since the 2004 season.
North claims 7th season title in 10 years, stays undefeated
The offense of the North Stanly Comets girls’ basketball team has become accustomed to an up-tempo, high-scoring offense this season, including creating points with its full-court pressure.
The Albemarle Bulldogs completed the season sweep of county and conference rival South Stanly Tuesday night in a rather deciding fashion, beating the Bulls 73-42.

West Stanly Middle wins title
After having been competitors for many years in both community leagues and at the K-8 basketball level, the first-year West Stanly Middle School Lady Colts’ basketball team claimed the Rocky River Middle School Athletic Conference (RRMSAC) title this season.
