Tuesday, August 31, 2010 — For week two of the 2010 high school football season, the Stanly News and Press Most Valuable Player of the Week is North Stanly quarterback Jalen Holt.
In the Comets's 25-7 win over South Stanly last Friday night, Holt had five completed passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, leading North Stanly to their first victory over the Rebel Bulls since the 2004 season.
The South Stanly softball team found out this afternoon which school they will be playing this week in the NCHSAA state 1A finals series.
The West Stanly Colts evened their best-of-three West Regional Series with Madison, getting a two-run home run from Savannah Blalock and three unearned runs in a 6-3 win Friday night.
Robert Walser of Lexington weighed a five-bass limit totaling 17 pounds, 13 ounces on May 12 to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division event on High Rock Lake. For his victory, Walser earned $6,156.
The Uwharrie Bobcats Men’s 65+ Slow Pitch Softball team improved their record to 6-3 Saturday when they recorded two wins over the Winston-Salem Legends at Rock Creek Park.
The baseball and softball teams of South Stanly High School both swept their 1A Western Regional Series with wins on Friday night.
