The North Stanly Comets varsity football squad started their final home game of the 2012 season on Friday night against Rocky River Conference leader Forest Hills in a positive way, gaining an early lead against the Yellow Jackets on Senior Night in the first two minutes of the game.
However, the Comets learned the reason why Forest Hills will be playing Monroe next week for the Rocky River Conference championship as the Jackets scored 52 unanswered points in a 52-7 win over North.
North (1-8, 1-5) recovered an onsides kick to start the game, then quarterback Kasey Caulder found Antonio Williams for a 45-yard screen pass for a touchdown.
Forest Hills got two rushing touchdowns from running back C.J. Carelock, along with a rushing score from quarterback Jared Lee, to take a 21-7 lead midway through the second.
The Comets kept a a drive alive late in the first half with a fake punt run by Antonio Williams, but the Jacket defense forced a fumble two plays later on a completed North pass and returned it for the score.
Forest Hills held North to one first down and 39 total yards of offense in the second half while scoring two more touchdowns and a 37-yard field goal from Alan Tinoco.
North Stanly travels to West Stanly (0-10, 0-6) Friday.
