Monday, January, 14, 2013 —
Pfeiffer University shot 49 percent from the field on Thursday night en route to an 87-74 victory at Barber-Scotia College.
The Falcons get back in the win column improving to 3-9 overall while the Sabers fall to 1-17.
Pfeiffer wouldn't see the lead early on until five minutes in after Tayron Gibson hit on a pair of free throws while a later three by Matt Ellwood put the Falcons up 14-12 just 27 seconds later.
CJ Woodberry would get in on the action with a tip-in and dunk 33 ticks a part before the Sabers ran out on a 12-0 run to grab their largest lead of the half at 10, 33-23 with 7:46 to play before the half.
Woodberry would stop the streak with another dunk 10 seconds later while another triple for Ellwood made it a three-point game just a minute later.
Coming up on three minutes left in the half, Ellwood connected on his fourth three of the half to put Pfeiffer up for good as the Falcons took a 47-42 lead into the locker room.
The second half clock started with Pfeiffer quickly going up by nine after a Kenny Tappin three-pointer 2:46 into the period.
An 8-1 run soon put Pfeiffer up 11 after a triple by Josh Humphrey at the 11:58 mark of the second.
An old-fashioned three-point play by AJ Clark would push the Falcon advantage to a dozen before another Humphrey lay in gave the visitors their largest lead of the night at 13, 68-55 with 10:06 to play.
Pfeiffer would continue their second half dominance as a spinning jumper in the lane by Clark extended the lead to 20 with just over five minutes left.
AJ Clark led all scorers for the Falcons with 19, followed by Humphrey's double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Tayron Gibson contributed 17 points while Ellwood finished with 15 on the night hitting on five triples.
Aaron Davis would lead all scorers with 21 on the night for Barber-Scotia.
