The Stanly Community College Eagles softball team continued their 2010 season with three doubleheaders against opponents from Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Stanly CC v. Pitt CC
In a home series held at Officer Jeff Shelton Park in Locust, the Eagles were swept in a doubleheader by Pitt Community College.
Jessica Roberts took the loss on the mound for Stanly in the first game, a 3-2 loss.
Hillary Armenta and Kati King led the offense in the game for the Eagles, each going 1-3.
In the second game of the twinbill with Pitt, King allowed just four hits in 31 batters faced but the visitors would score three times in the top of the eighth inning for a 3-0 win.
Stanly CC vs. Florence
Last Wednesday, the Eagles travelled to Florence-Darlington Community College in South Carolina for a doubleheader with the Stingers.
In the opening game, Roberts had seven strikeouts on the mound for the Eagles but Stanly would lose the first game 3-2.
Roberts, along with King, Armenta and Lyndsey Yow, each went 1-3 for the Eagles.
In the second game of the twinbill, an offensive game went to the host Stingers 12-8.
Roberts was 2-4 at bat for Stanly, including a home run, while Armenta added a two-run home run as well.
Last Friday, the Eagles returned home for a doubleheader against USC-Sumter.
Kati King picked up the win on the mound for Stanly in the first game, a 2-1 win over the Fire Ants.
In the Eagles’ victory, Courtney Moore led the offense with a perfect 3-3 performance at the plate.
The Fire Ants rallied in the second game of the doubleheader for a 7-5 win over the Eagles.
Roberts took the loss on the mound despite going 2-3 at the plate for Stanly.
Armenta continued her hot streak at the plate with a grand slam in the second game, her second home run of the week.
The Eagles will be at home on Friday afternoon with a home doubleheader against Southeastern. The twinbill is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
Stanly then travels to USC-Sumter on Sunday for a doubleheader with the Fire Ants starting at 2 p.m.
