The final week of the regular season for the boys’ soccer team of Stanly County saw two rivalries renewed as Albemarle took on Gray Stone on Tuesday, while West Stanly travelled to North Stanly on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s Matches
West Stanly 6
North Stanly 1
The final home game of the regular season for the North Stanly Comets had North hosting county rival West Stanly on Wednesday night with the Comets still searching for their first win of the season.
The Colts looked to continue their regular season on a positive note with their final match of the season coming Monday night at Forest Hills having secured the No. 3 2A seed from the RRC.
The Colts scored three first-half goals and went on to a 6-1 win at North Stanly on Wednesday night.
Josue Zagada and Brady Ennis each scored two goals to lead West Stanly (5-11, 4-9 RRC). Lalo Peguero and Edgar Olea each had a goal and an assist while Daniel Benitez added an assist.
West jumped out to a 1-0 lead but North (0-16, 0-14) tied the match in the first half with a goal from Dylan Xiong. The Colts responded with a goal just before halftime to make it 3-1, then scored three goals in the second half.
West Stanly will travel to Trinity High School this Wednesday night to take on the No. 1-seeded Bulldogs, out of the Pac-6 Conference, in the opening round of the state 2A playoffs.
North Moore 3
Albemarle 1
The final game of the regular season for the Bulldogs saw Albemarle travel to North Moore to take on the 11th-ranked Mustangs.
Albemarle suffered a 3-1 loss to North Moore to fall to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the Yadkin Valley Conference.
Jose Castenada scored the lone goal of the game for the Bulldogs.
Albemarle will host a home playoff game this Wednesday evening with the opponent yet to be determined.

Gray Stone 0
The Albemarle Bulldogs and Gray Stone Knights renewed their rivalry on the soccer pitch this week when the Knights travelled to Albemarle on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs celebrated senior night with a 3-0 shutout win over Gray Stone (6-7-1,4-6 YVC).
Julio Cisneros scored in the first half for Albemarle to give them a 1-0 lead which they held at halftime.
Anthony Hinson added a goal to make it 2-0, then Cisneros scored a goal on a 35-yard free kick that Bulldog head coach Jake Staton called the “hands-down goal of the year.”
