On Monday night, the South Stanly wrestling team hosted a match against county rival Albemarle and the No. 1 ranked 1A wrestling team in the state, the North Rowan Cavaliers.
The Bulls and Bulldogs did not wrestle each other Monday as the two team’s matchup Saturday at the county meet at West Stanly will count for their regular-season matchup.
South Stanly vs. North Rowan
The Cavaliers topped South Stanly 47-28 with the Rebel Bulls earning a victories on the mat.
The match started at 160 pounds, where South’s Josh LeWellen earned a 10-5 decision over Braxton Robon.
North Rowan rallied to win the next five matches, two by pinfall, two by decision and one by forfeit.
At 106 pounds, South’s Cody Shields got a pinfall win, while Christian Honeycutt won at 113 pounds for South by medical forfeit.
South’s other win on the mat was at 120 pounds when Patrick Cruz pinned Cameron Hunter in a time of :59.
Albemarle vs. North Rowan
The Cavs won all their matches against the Bulldogs, including one close decision at 126 pounds by Darrell Taylor over Albemarle’s Grant Plyler.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 11, 2013) -- Monday evening's game between the Kannapolis Intimidators and Augusta GreenJackets has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The teams will make up the game on Tuesday, June 11, as part of a doubleheader comprising two 7-inning games starting at 5 p.m. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
