Stanly County Basketball Notebook

Thursday, January 24, 2013 —

In basketball action this past Tuesday and Wednesday, the high school varsity basketball teams of Stanly County continued play in their respective conferences.

On Tuesday night, Albemarle traveled to South Davidson and split their Yadkin Valley Conference games with South Davidson. The Bulldog boys' squad won 86-38 while the girls' team lost 64-44.

Also on Tuesday, West Stanly hosted North Stanly in Rocky River Conference action. The Comet girls won 52-34 while the Colt boys earned a 74-47 win over North.

Gray Stone suffered two losses on Tuesday night at YVC opponent West Montgomery. The Knight girls lost 70-41 and the boys lost 79-29.

Albemarle won both of their YVC games on Wednesday night at home against South Stanly. The Bulldog girls won 50-47 in overtime while the boys won 79-42.

  In local playoff games on Friday, South Stanly hosted Albemarle in a third-round 1A baseball playoff matchup, while West Stanly hosted Piedmont in the 2A softball third-round and Gray Stone traveled to Chatham Central for a 1A third-round softball game.
