The wrestling teams of Albemarle, West Stanly, Porter Ridge, Monroe, Union Academy and West Stanly travelled to South Stanly on Saturday for the Bullpen Duals.
Porter Ridge claimed the best record at the event going undefeated at 5-0 with West Stanly coming in second at 4-1. The Bulls were 3-2, followed by Monroe (2-3), Albemarle (1-4) and Union Academy (0-5).
South Stanly
South topped Monroe 49-29, getting pinfall wins from Montrell Brewer (152), Freddy Vences (160), Sawyer Bartlett (170) and Jonathan Beachum (220).
Against Albemarle, the Bulls won 72-12, with Patrick Cruz (126), Robert Beachum (132), Brewer and Beachum getting wins. Cale Gardner got the lone pinfall win for the Bulldogs at 182 pounds.
West Stanly won over the host Rebel Bulls by a score of 63-15. The Colts got pinfall victories from Jonathan Surratt (126), Ethan Morgan (132), Mason Gardiner (138), Wesley Gordon (160), Jordan Linker (182), Luke Alexander (195) and Brian Ramirez (220). West also got technical fall wins from Pavin Chunn (113), Nathan Marlow (120) and Jonathan Lord (145). South’s Brewer earned the only win on the mat for South against West in the 152-pound matchup, winning a 9-7 decision.
The Bulls lost to Porter Ridge 63-18, getting pinfall wins from Cody Shields (106), Brewer (152) and Vences (160).
In South’s 72-12 win over Union Academy, the Bulls had 12 forfeit wins.
West Stanly
Along with their win over the Bulls, the Colts topped Monroe 48-28, getting pinfall wins from Jonathan Surratt (126), Lord (138), Mark Balmas (152) and Wesley Gordon (160).
West Stanly topped Albemarle 72-6, getting pinfall wins from Surratt (126), Morgan (132), Balmas (150), Brian Ramirez (220) and Zachary Stabler (285). The Bulldogs’ lone win of the match came with a pinfall win at 170 pounds by Cale Gardner.
In the Colts’ matchup against Union Academy, West Stanly got 10 forfeit wins and a pinfall win at 138 pounds by Mason Gardner in a 66-6 victory over the Cardinals.
West Stanly’s only loss came in a competitive 45-30 loss to the Pirates. Trailing 18-0, the Colts got five straight pinfall wins, coming from Surratt (126), Morgan (132), Lord (138), Jordan Blake (145) and Gordon (152). Porter Ridge then won the final six matches, two by decision, to claim the win.
Albemarle
The Bulldogs’ lone team win came against Union Academy as Albemarle won 42-18, getting seven forfeit wins to claim the victory.
