Tuesday, December 30, 2008 — Four local athletes recently participated in the Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon in Wilmington.
The ironman distance event consists of a 2.4-mile swim, which is then followed by a 112-mile bike ride and then rounded off with a 26.2-mile marathon.
Derek Blalock led the way for the local runners by completing the 140.6 mile course in 11 hours, 56 minutes and 24 seconds. This was Blalock’s fourth Ironman event in which he has participated.
Kelly Caudle, Jeff Hogan and Mike Hogan competed in their first Ironman.
Caudle’s crossed the finish line in 14:49:16.
The Hogan brothers finished together with times of 16:32:28.
