Thursday, December 25, 2008 — West Stanly fans will have an extra reason to be watching the Meineke Car Care Bowl this Saturday afternoon.
Quan Sturdivant, the former standout quarterback and free safety at West Stanly High School, will be one of the starting linebackers for the North Carolina Tarheels.
Sturdivant leads the Tarheels in tackles with 81 unassisted stops. He also has had 30 assists as well, bringing his team-leading total in tackles to 111.
The Tarheel sophomore is tied for third on the North Carolina squad in sacks with 5.5 and has two interceptions.
One of those interceptions was a big game-changer, a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 29-24 home win over Notre Dame.
The Meineke Car Care Bowl will pit two 8-4 teams together as the Tarheels will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. Game time is at 1 p.m.
