Sunday, November 19, 2006 — Always the gracious gentleman, Quan Sturdivant stood on his home turf and signed autographs for his legion of fans, just moments after his high school career ended Friday night ended on a low note.
Youngsters and oldsters alike were eager to say “thank you” to three-sport athlete that has done so much for the green and white.
While his high school athletic career ended and his high school days are counting down to the end of the first semester, Sturdivant made a life-altering decision Thursday.
Rather than becoming Florida Gator, the Shine Bowl quarterback and standout free safety has decided to stay in-state and become a North Carolina Tar Heel.
Current Tar Heel Coach John Bunting had Sturdivant as a top recruit, but with Bunting’s firing, Sturdivant gave Florida a verbal commitment last week.
However, with Butch Davis being named Tar Heel coach this week, Sturdivant opted to go with the Heels.
He will enroll beginning of second semester in Chapel Hill and will be there for spring practice as the Butch Davis era begins for the Tar Heel faithful.
