Sunday, October 5, 2008 — The top two soccer teams in the conference came together to battle for the last time Wednesday at Pfeiffer.
Gray Stone neeeded a win to secure the tiebreaker over CATA, who just needed a tie to give them sole possesion of first place in the Rocky River Conference.
Central Academy and Gray Stone would play to a 0-0 draw, giving the Cougars first place.
Mike Wall had the only goal-scoring opportunity of overtime as he battled for a ball in the box and was turned away by a stretch of a defenders leg.
"I kicked his leg instead of the ball," Wall said. "I don't know how he got his leg in there."
"We are now cheering for anyone to beat them. They played well and deserve to be where they are, but so have we. If anyone else can beat them, we still have a chance,” Gray Stone head coach Jeff Morris said.
The Knights will visit South Stanly on Monday.
