Tuesday, September 23, 2008 — Locust Parks and Recreation held its season opener games for the new adult softball league Thursday evening.
“We had a great turnout, and I believe it was a huge success,” said Dan Sullivan, Locust parks and recreation director.
Six teams make up the league, which is not restricted by gender.
Sullivan thought the addition of the league would be a good idea for Locust, which was confirmed Thursday as he heard many players saying this was something they had wanted for a while.
“I’ve not been able to determine an exact date for the last time a game was held in the city, but from what I understand, it’s been long time,” Sullivan said.
The teams play every Tuesday and every other Thursday at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at field number four. The regular season will continue through Oct. 30, which will be followed by a end of season tournament.
With the turnout thus far, Sullivan has decided to continue the league next year, but he also said he would consider holding a spring league depending on the outcome.
