Sunday, September 21, 2008 — The North Stanly volleyball squad has only lost to two different teams this season: at West Montgomery and at Mount Pleasant.
In a spirited effort before a raucous crowd on Thursday night, the Comets would rally to tie the match but would suffer their first home loss of the season to the Warriors.
Tiffany Fraley led the Comets (6-3 overall, 6-1 RRC) with nine kills with Brittany Burris adding six.
Madalyn London led North in digs with 12 with Jessica Barringer adding 10.
London and Jessica Roberts both have five aces in the match for the Comets.
West Montgomery would jump out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set, prompting a timeout from North.
The Comets would not get closer in the opening game as the Warriors won 25-13.
North Stanly kept the second set much closer as neither team would lead by more then five points.
Trailing 10-8 midway through the set, the Comets rallied behind London’s serving to retake the lead enroute to a 25-21 win.
The third set would turn the tide in the match as North overcame an 11-2 deficit to tie the match at 22 on a Burris ace.
West would win the next three points and then the match with a 25-17 win in the final set.
“Overall, we played well tonight, but our height hurts us somewhat,” North Stanly head coach Sharon Fraley said.
The Comets continue conference play this week when they travel to Forest Hills on Monday, then have a rematch with first-place Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday.
