Thursday, September 18, 2008 — One week before conference play opens, the football teams of Stanly County get one last non-conference game to get ready for the games that count in the Rocky River Conference.
One thing that all three games have in common is that the Stanly teams are all facing winless opponents Friday night.
North Moore (0-3) at South Stanly (2-1)
South Stanly finally gets a home game Friday night after three weeks on the road and a bye week.
The Mustangs have been outscored this season 84-6 and have not won a game since 2006 due to forfeiting all their games last season for using ineligible players.
North Moore has a tall target in 6’5” tight end Rashad Brower and a good running back in Corey Smith.
Albemarle (2-1) at Fairmont (0-3)
The Tornadoes have not been close to winning a game yet, having given up 108 points and scoring only 12 this year.
Albemarle travels to Robeson County to take on Fairmont before next week’s annual renewal of the rivalry with West Stanly
West Stanly (1-2) at Central Cabarrus (0-4)
The Colts travel down Rt. 49 to Harrisburg to face a Vikings team that has been through a very tough non-conference schedule.
With losses to A.L. Brown, Northwest Cabarrus, Hickory Ridge and Mt. Pleasant, Central has been outscored 120-18 and given up more then 40 points three of those losses.
The Vikings lost senior running back Trey Bostic to an injury against Mt. Pleasant last week and his status is not known for Friday’s game.
West Stanly will look to control the line of scrimmage and use their running game to limit Central’s chances with the football.
