Thursday, August 28, 2008 — South Stanly defeated West Stanly 3-0 Wednesday in three close sets.
“I’m glad we got our first win. It will be helpful in building momentum as we head into conference play,” said Sean Whitley, varsity head coach.
South won the first set 25-16 even though West began a rally from behind after an ace from Amanda Efird.
In the second set, West was ahead until South made four unanswered points and stayed on top for the rest of the set, winning 25-23.
South won the match after winning the third set 25-20.
“Kendra Bradley had a great game setting the ball,” Whitley said.
Bradley had 14 assists, while Jessica Huneycutt and Laura McCree led South in kills with 8 and 5 kills respectively.
South will host Albemarle on Wednesday while West will be at home against North Stanly.
