Thursday, August 28, 2008 — After a grueling five-set loss to West Montgomery on Tuesday, the Albemarle volleyball team returned home on Wednesday to face the Monroe Redhawks.
The game may have started late but the Bulldogs’ onslaught started from the opening whistle as Albemarle cruised past Monroe 3-0.
Mariah Lowder led the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0 RRC) with 14 kills, adding nine digs to the effort.
Paige McConologue had 14 digs for Albemarle with Tara Butler notching 10.
Samantha Braunsburg set the pace with her setting skills, getting 17 assists on the night.
“We played such a hard match last night,” Albemarle head coach Joanne McConologue said.
“We had to get over our disappointment tonight and we did, getting back to the fundmentals and good serving.”
McConologue gave credit to Braunsburg for her assists on the night, saying that “we are trying to be creative in our sets and not just set to one person.”
The Albemarle defense was oustanding in the match, never allowing Monroe more than three consecutive points in any of the three games.
The Bulldogs posted individual game scores of 25-7, 25-13 and 25-10 enroute to their second Rocky River Conference win.
Albemarle looks to continue their success in the Rokcy River Conference next week with a match on Wednesday at rival South Stanly.
