Tuesday, August 26, 2008 — The North Stanly volleyball squad faced off against some very familiar faces in cross county rival South Stanly.

Players from both squads played this summer on the same Junior Olympics team.

It was all business for the Comets Monday night as North used a dominant serving attack to sweep the Rebel Bulls 3-0 on Monday night.

“We have worked on our serving a lot and it has made a huge difference,” North head coach Sharon Fraley said.

Goua Moua and Madalyn London led North Stanly (2-0, 1-1 RRC) with four digs each.

Vicki Noll led the Comets in kills with five. Jessica Roberts added four kills and four other Comets had three kills each.

Alison Greene and Jana Eatman led the Rebel Bulls (0-2, 0-1 RRC) in kills with four with Jessica Huneycutt adding three kills as well.

In game one, North Stanly went on a 9-0 run after the game was tied 2-2 on the serving strength of Noll, forcing a South Stanly timeout.

South Stanly would rally in the game and cut into the Comets’ lead. A big kill by Eatman midway through the game cut the lead to 14-7.

The jump serves of Jessica Barringer would help propel the Comets to the win in the first game 25-14.

After Moua’s kill over a South block gave North a 7-2 lead in the second game, South would rally to keep the game close.

The Rebel Bulls’ Huneycutt would deliver a timely kill that cut North’s lead to just a single point at 14-13.

North would again rally and take the second game 25-19.

In the final game of the evening, North would maintain a very small lead until a late run would give the Comets the game 25-19 and the match.

“Our passing was much better tonight. We showed very good ball control,” Coach Fraley said.

North Stanly faces a tough test on Wednesday night when the Comets travel to Mt. Pleasant to face the defending conference champions.

“We need to play [Wednesday night] like we played against West Montgomery,” Coach Fraley said.

South Stanly will continue conference play on Wednesday when the Rebel Bulls travel to Red Cross to face West Stanly.
