Thursday, April 12, 2007 — The Albemarle Optimist Junior Golf Classic will be played April 21 at Piney Pointe Golf Club.
The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m.
All Stanly County boys and girls between ages 10-18 are eligible to play. Entry fee is $20.
There will be two divisions for boys and girls, ages 10-15 and 16-18 with trophies awarded to the winners of each division.
Medals will be presented to the top three finishers in each division while all participants will receive pins, programs, gift bags and dinner following the event.
Four players will represent the Albemarle Optimist Club at the NC West District tournament which will be held at Catawba Country Club in Newton June 18.
Winners at Newton qualify to play in the 2007 Optimist International Junior Golf Championship at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. in July.
The Albemarle Optimist Junior Golf Classic is not a fundraiser for the local club. Local businesses help sponsor the tournament.

Falcons open season with 3-0 loss to Ball State
Fighting off late rallies by Pfeiffer University in sets two and three, visiting Ball State University was able to escape with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-23) sweep of the Falcons in the NCAA I Men’s Volleyball action on Saturday afternoon in Merner Gym.
