Colts’ rebounding prowess too much for UA Cardinals
Sunday, January 11, 2009 — The art of rebounding in basketball takes determination and a committed attitude to work hard and help one’s team out by doing that work.
West Stanly’s boys basketball team put in another hard hat-wearing performance on the boards in an easy 64-38 win Friday night at home against Union Academy.
Andrew Wilson led the Colts (9-5, 6-2 RRC) with 22 points and also had 12 rebounds.
Elliot Drake had another strong game for West Stanly with 12 points and nine rebounds. Drake also shot well in the game, hitting 6-of-10 from the floor.
Zack Caldwell led West Stanly in rebounds with 13, adding six points in the win as well.
Tim Tanner and James Middlesteadt each scored 13 points to lead the Cardinals (1-11, 1-7 RRC). Tanner also pulled down seven rebounds for Union Academy.
As a team, the Colts pounded the Cardinals on the boards, with a rebounding advantage of 62-19, including a whopping 31-3 on the offensive glass.
West Stanly’s defense only allowed Union Academy to shoot 26 percent from the floor on 13-of-50 shooting.
The Colts shot slightly better from the floor at 31 percent, making 26 of their 84 attempts.
West Stanly was able to get more shots at the basket because of their offensive rebounding advantage.
The Colts will now have a week off before their next game, which will be Friday against Gray Stone at Mount Pleasant H.S.

Friday night is still the greatest night of the week
Of all the many sports that I cover during the year, no sport requires more physical and mental effort, demanding more attention to detail than the coverage of high school football.
Football has long been arguably the most covered, most watched high school sport for many years, but with the advent of the internet and video cameras no bigger than a cell phone, everywhere you look people are covering prep football like never before. -
