Comets fall to Monroe; West tops Cardinals

Friday, February 8, 2013 — In Rocky River Conference games on Tuesday, West Stanly travelled to Union Academy while North Stanly was on the road at Monroe.

Boys

West Stanly 41

Union Academy 31

The West Stanly boys evened their Rocky River Conference record to 5-5 despite scoring their fifth-lowest point total of the season in a 41-31 road win at Union Academy on Tuesday night.

B.J. Hill and Ryan McCormick each scored 13 points to lead West Stanly (8-11, 5-5 RRC).

Colin Whitaker paced the Cardinals (0-10, 0-8) with nine points.

“Union Academy outplayed us for much of the game. We came out flat and they played well. I thought our defense was pretty good at times, but we struggled offensively,” West head coach John Thompson said.

West Stanly will host Piedmont on Friday.

The North Stanly girls’ basketball team fell to 12-9 overall and 5-6 in the Rocky River Conference with a road loss on Tuesday night at Monroe 69-40.

Union Academy 35

The West Stanly girls’ basketball team ended a five-game losing streak in a 39-35 road win at Union Academy on Tuesday.

Emily Morgan led the Colts (7-12, 2-8 RRC) with 12 points while Macey Webb added 10.

Savanah Fox was top scorer for the Cardinals (1-9, 0-8) with 12 points and Cara McNulty added 11.

North Stanly 38

The North Stanly boys’ basketball team suffered an 80-38 loss on Tuesday night at Monroe, falling to 6-15 overall and 2-9 in the Rocky River Conference.

T.J. Smith led the Comets with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, adding four rebounds.

The Comets travel to Central Academy Friday.
