Pfeiffer hit .278 as a team cruising to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-19) victory over Rust College in the opening match of the Lance Johnson Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
A kill by Joe Supko in set one started to separate the two teams at 13-10 before an Eric Edelman ace finished a 10-1 run for the Falcons (4-1).
Caleb Brophy would pick up two of the set’s final kills as Pfeiffer won the opener 25-14.
The Falcons jumped out to a quick 9-2 start in set two using a pair of aces from Fabio Diniz. Micah Bortner would add a final kill, along with another Diniz ace, to aid the Falcons in a 25-11 second set win.
A lineup change in set three saw Rust jump out to an early lead until a kill from Blake Dowdle equalized the final set at 15-15.
A Kyle Landrigan ace put the hosts up 17-16 before a Sonny Hirini kill put the Falcons up for good at 20-17. Kyle Mariano would score two of the Falcons’ final kills including the sweep-clinching kill in a 25-19 win.
Edelman and Brophy led Pfeiffer with seven kills as Edelman followed his school record hitting percentage Thursday with a .667 mark on Saturday. David Specian picked up 18 assists while Diniz had seven digs.
Pfeiffer hosts Barton at 7 p.m tonight in the Merner Gym.
