The West Stanly wrestling squad opened the new year in a big way with a 54-12 non-conference win over East Montgomery on Wednesday night.
The match started in the 138-pound weight class, where Jonathan Lord for West Stanly opened the match with a pinfall win over East Montgomery’s Antonio hill, Jr. in a time of 4:22.
The Eagles bounced back with a decision win at 145 pounds when Daniel Lopez won by a score of 4-3 over Jordan Blake.
At 152 pounds, Mark Balmas of West earned a last-second pinfall win over East’s Levi Rushing in a time of 5:48.
Wesley Gordon gave the Colts six more points with a forfeit win at 160 pounds before the Eagles got two wins to draw close in the overall team score. Zesar Albarez of East Montgomery pinned West Stanly’s Clint Gibson in 2:19 seconds, then Charles Callahan got a 2-1 tiebreaker win over Colt Erikcel Ramirez 2-1.
From that point, the match was all West Stanly as the Comets score 36 unanswered points in the match.
Luke Alexander (195) and Brian Ramirez (220) both got forfeit wins for West, and Zachary Stabler pinned East’s Andre Ross in the heavyweight match in a time of 6:52.
The Colts got three more forfeit wins from Pavin Chunn (113), Jonathan Surratt (126) and Ethan Morgan (132) to round out the scoring in the match.
