Thursday, March 11, 2010 — The West Stanly softball team jumped out to a big early lead and went on to an 11-1 win over Rocky River Conference and county rival North Stanly on Tuesday afternoon at West.
Emily B. Huneycutt earned the pitching victory on the mound for the Colts, allowing one earned run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Kayte Hahn took the loss for the Comets, going two innings and giving up six earned runs.
Catcher Macey Webb led of the bottom of the second for West Stanly with a double. The Colts scored six times in the second as Sarah Mauldin, Jessica Robinson, Brittany Beatty and Emily D. Huneycutt all had RBIs in the inning.
North’s run came in the top of the third when Holli Chandler hit a one-out triple and scored on an RBI single from Melissa Stallings.
West got five runs in the third inning, including two on an RBI single from Mauldin to take a 10-run lead.
North hosts CATA today at 4:30 while the Colts host West Montgomery today.

Falcons open season with 3-0 loss to Ball State
