Airman graduates basic training
Airman Jacob Thomas Robinson, son of Tom and Karen Robinson of Richfield, graduated from the United States Air Force Military Basic Training program on Jan. 26 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Kendall receives military medals
The Congress of the United States House of Representatives honored CPL Willie J. Kendall, who was born in Stanly County in 1927, for service provided in the Korean War at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at West Vandalia Presbyterian Church, Greensboro.

Chamber CEO receives first veterans advocate award
Tom Ramseur, Stanly County Chamber of Commerce CEO and president, is the first recipient of the North Carolina Career Center 1 Annual Veterans Advocate Award.

Students receive nominations to U.S. Service Academies
U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08) has announced that he has nominated four local students to U.S. Service Academies. In order to receive an appointment to a military academy, students must first receive a nomination.

Change of Watch – Top Gun Award
During the award ceremony Marty Nail was awarded the Top Gun Award. -
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 054-26 Western North Carolina held their Annual Change of Watch Saturday January 21st.
Flotilla’s representing Western North Carolina were included in the ceremony. -
VFW to have Valentine’s Dance
Waverly Owen Skidmore VFW Post 2908 will hold its annual Sweetheart Valentine’s Dance on Feb. 11 at the post home, 119 Anderson Road, Albemarle.
