The Congress of the United States House of Representatives honored CPL Willie J. Kendall, who was born in Stanly County in 1927, for service provided in the Korean War at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at West Vandalia Presbyterian Church, Greensboro.
Congressman Mel Watts pinned the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal (with two bronze stars), Combat Infantryman Badge and the United Nations Service Medal on CPL Kendall.
