Pfeiffer University students and staff commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks by serving veterans at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury.
The 15-member group escorted veterans to a 9/11 memorial chapel service, delivered cards and a sign created by Pfeiffer students, and spent time visiting with those who have served the U.S. in a variety of military service roles.
During the chapel service, Rev. Ethel Bamberg-Reavis, chaplain, Hefner V.A. Medical Center, asked attendees to remember the victims and first responders by recalling that in the midst of the despair that day, there were many who said, “I want to help.”
“It is rewarding to serve veterans who, unfortunately, are sometimes forgotten even on a day as significant as Sept. 11,” said Melissa Roberts, student community partner coordinator for Pfeiffer. “We are permanently indebted to them.”
Established in 1885, Pfeiffer University is a comprehensive institution of higher education affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
