Guard Soldiers Return from Iraq
RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina National Guard’s 113th Finance Detachment, 130th Financial Management Company, headquartered in Siler City, returned after deploying for Operation Iraqi Freedom in October 2009 to North Carolina at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in Raleigh Aug. 19.

NC Air Guard Participates in Emergency Exercise
RALEIGH, N.C. – The 156th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron joined several other agencies in a National Disaster Medical System exercise Aug. 12 at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
The Air unit, which falls under the North Carolina National Guard’s 145th Airlift Wing, participated in a four-hour interagency exercise which focused on each agency’s ability to respond to a hurricane emergency that required moving patients from the impacted area. The exercise also involved local, regional, state, and federal agencies. -
Moldovan Military Members Visit NCNG
RALEIGH, N.C. – Five members of the Moldovan military force toured two North Carolina National Guard bases last week as a part of the NATO State Partnership Program. The team traveled to the United States with the intent of learning about medical evacuation and search and rescue operations conducted by the North Carolina National Guard.

Got something to say? The Signal Warriors of the 295th Signal Network Support Company (SNSC) have you covered. Operating as a separate company of 51 Soldiers under the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) from their home station in Charlotte, NC, the 295th is a relatively new unit that was organized in 2006, and up until February 2010, was creatively training without its equipment.

Engineers Bond, Train With Tribe
PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. – (June 28, 2010) Two North Carolina National Guard units performed their annual training by conducting construction operations on the La Jolla Indian Reservation in Pauma Valley, Calif. The 881st Engineer Support Company, based out of Rockingham, N.C., worked in conjunction with the 875th Engineer Company of North Wilkesboro and Lexington, N.C.

Kissell sets up Army Surgeon General’s staff visit to Research Campus
Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) organized a meeting between representatives from the U.S. Army Surgeon General’s office and the North Carolina Research Campus.
The meeting took place June 30. Although Kissell facilitated the meeting, he was unable to attend due to the schedule of votes in Washington. -
Kissell honors Service Academy appointees
On Monday, Congressman Larry Kissell hosted a reception honoring students from the 8th District who received appointments to one of five U.S. Service Academies. The reception was at the Cole Auditorium and Community Center on the campus of Richmond Community College.
Andrew Pribble of Richfield received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy. Pribble, son of James and Janet Pribble, attended Gray Stone Day School last year. He was unable to attend the reception. -
Kissell leads congressional delegation to Afghanistan
CONCORD — Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) was in Afghanistan over the Memorial Day weekend to visit troops, meet with Commander of the Inter-national Security Assistance Force Gen. Stanley McChrystal and get a briefing by U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eiken-berry.
Kissell received a number of briefings and saw first-hand the military effort, reconstruction projects and training of the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police. This was Kissell’s third trip to Afghanistan to check on the progress and the troops deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. -
Pribble receives West Point appointment
CONCORD — Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) has announced that Andrew Pribble of Gray Stone Day School has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy and has accepted this appointment.

Franklin completes basic training
Pvt. Kasey L. Franklin has completed basic combat training at Fort Sill, Okla., where she was recognized as an honor graduate.
Franklin, daughter of Michael and Hayley W. Franklin of Richfield, is now at Fort Sam Houston in Texas for AIT training for 16 weeks. - More Service News Headlines
