Earley named Senior Sailor of the Year
Each year every command in the U.S. Navy names three enlisted members as the units’ top performers.
Recently, Scientific Development Squadron ONE of NAS Patuxent River, Md., named Petty Officer First Class Joe Earley as its Senior Sailor of the Year. -

SOLDIERS OF N.C. GUARD 30th HEAVY BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM RETURN HOME THIS WEEKEND
RALEIGH – The next group of about 440 of the nearly 4000 Soldiers of the N.C. Army National Guard‘s 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team is scheduled to return to N.C. this weekend after a nine month deployment to Iraq.

SOLDIERS OF N.C. GUARD 30th HEAVY BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM
RALEIGH - The first of nearly 4000 Soldiers of the N.C. Army National Guard's 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team returned to N.C. today after a nine month deployment to Iraq. The 30th started training for Iraq in December of last year and went on federal active duty in February then deployed to Iraq in April. This first group of Soldiers met family members at N.C. National Guard Armories in Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville and Goldsboro.

Airman becomes member of Air Traffic Control Squadron
Senior Airman Jacqueline S. Plumley became the first local member of the 235th Air Traffic Control Squadron.
She deployed to southern Iraq for more than 135 days, where she was coined by the base commander for her hard work, coined by the Romanian CC for her quick response to a fire and saving their camp from losing millions and coined by the Navy Commander for her work volunteering as the pilot controller liaison.

NC NATIONAL GUARD CALLED OUT TO SUPPORT WINTER STORM
RALEIGH -Twenty four North Carolina National Guard Soldiers have been called
to State Active Duty and are assisting in winter storm operations, working
with NC State Highway Patrol to rescue stranded motorists.

Gouge completes Marine boot camp
Cody E. Gouge graduated from the United States Marine Corps boot camp Nov. 20 at Parris Island, S.C. He will continue his training at Camp Geiger.

A Thanksgiving greeting from Sam in the Sandbox
Hey y’all, I really wanted to wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving. This isn’t the first Thanksgiving I’ve spent away from my family, but I tell you what, spending the holiday in southern Iraq is a whole world apart from spending the holiday out in rural Massachusetts. A year ago I had the big dinner with my friends Becky and Moody and the Thorp family up North.
But today in Iraq, well, it’s another work day. There’s plenty to do.

Howard graduates Basic Training
Dustin Ray Howard of Oakboro, graduated Air Force Military Basic Training Sept. 25 at Lackland AFB in Texas.
Dustin is the son of Benny and Tammy Howard of Oakboro, and the grandson of Benton and the late LouEva Howard of Ridgecrest and Mr. and Mrs. Rayvon Whitley of Albemarle. Dustin is a 2002 graduate of West Stanly High and a 2004 graduate of SCC.
