LOCATION: The Cabarrus Arena & Events Center
HOURS: Fri. 10-6, Sat. 10-6 & Sun. 11-5
The 32nd annual Christmas Made in the South kicks off the holiday season at The Cabarrus Arena & Events Center Oct. 19th – 21st. This festival features the handmade works of over 300 artists and master craftsmen from over 23 states and Canada. The artist will be creating contemporary and traditional one-of-a-kind pieces in a broad spectrum of media.
Charlotte was the starting point of the Christmas Made in the South festivals 32 years ago and has grown to become one of the largest regional juried arts and crafts festivals in the nation. Before artists and craftsmen are allowed to participate, their work is critiqued by a panel of experts. Hundreds of applications are received each year and notified in January if accepted.
“Our goal is to bring a diverse mix of arts and handmade crafts to communities throughout the Southeast,” says Bob Hunt, President of Carolina Shows, Inc. The show focuses on original work and unique crafts, therefore avoiding mass-produced items. In addition to the craftsmen the show allows gourmet specialty booths; however, even these exhibitors must have a history of uniqueness.
“The show goers enjoy interacting with the craftsmen, learning their techniques as well as the inspiration behind their work. Picking out decorative objects and designs that add unique interest to the home is a common practice at Christmas Made in the South as well as gift buying for that “hard to shop for” friend or family member”, says Hunt.
Sunshine Artist Magazine, the art industries leading publication, recently rated Christmas Made in the South as one of the top 100 craft festivals in the nation. “Being ranked in the top 100 out of more than 10,000 craft shows nationally is certainly an honor,” says Hunt.
