Rep. Kissell Discusses Promoting American Manufacturing with WearUSA

Monday, January 30, 2012 — CONCORD, NC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) met last week with Liz Havlin, Executive Director of WearUSA, to discuss further ways to revitalize domestic American manufacturing.

WearUSA supports small businesses that promote American manufacturing and sell American-made products. Kissell and Havlin met in Kissell’s Concord office to discuss the group’s effort to recognize and support local businesses that have embraced the Made in the USA effort.

“In order to continue to work on America’s economic recovery, we need to invest in American-made products,” Kissell said. “When we recognize the efforts of those companies that are doing their best to promote Made in America, we help bring attention to their efforts and reward them the best way we know how: by supporting their businesses. This is a common sense approach to create jobs and grow our economy, and I enjoyed meeting with Liz to learn more about her organization and our shared goal of creating jobs here in America.”

Rep. Kissell has introduced legislation to expand Buy American provisions within the federal government, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Textile Caucus, an effort among members of Congress to work to provide area textile companies a level playing field in our global economy and promote the successes of industries that have served as the backbone of our local economy, much like the Textile industry has. Before being elected to Congress, Kissell worked for 27 years in a textile mill in Montgomery County.

“It’s time we make a strong commitment to bring jobs back to America where they belong,” Kissell added. “I’m eager to hear from organizations like WearUSA that are dedicated to strengthening American manufacturing and promoting the best brand in the world: Made in the USA.”
