Local leader rallies teams during March for Babies kickoff event

Thursday, February 21, 2013 — The Greater Piedmont Division of the March of Dimes hosted a 2013 March for Babies Kickoff Breakfast Feb. 14 at the Mint Museum, Uptown Charlotte. More than 100 people attended the event. Jim Rogers, Duke Energy president and CEO and 2013 Charlotte March for Babies Chair, opened the program and encouraged team captains, walkers and corporate teams to be their best.  “It is the 75th anniversary of the founding of one of the nation’s most recognized and respected organizations – the March of Dimes,” said Rogers. “Each of you has taken the first step in joining us in this anniversary celebration by being here today, and we want to make this the most successful March for Babies ever.”

In addition to opening the event, Rogers announced a CEO Challenge between him and the Triangle March for Babies Chair Brad Wilson, CEO, Blue Cross and Blue Shield North Carolina. Whoever raises the least amount of money for the 2013 March for Babies events online will have to drive to the winner’s city and wash their car in a public place.

March for Babies is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Uptown Charlotte. The kick-off allows attendees the opportunity to network and learn effective fundraising strategies.

When you walk for March for Babies, you give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. The money raised supports programs in the community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. Funds also research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. March of Dimes has been walking since 1970 and has raised an incredible $2 million to benefit all babies.

This year, more than 7 million people will join their family, friends and colleagues in 900 communities across the nation. Volunteers and staff will encourage and support all efforts to raise awareness and funds. Register for the walk at www.marchforbabies.org.
