Last week, Commissioner Gene McIntyre spent time in Washington and met with our three national congressional leaders.
McIntyre shared with his fellow commissioners Monday night that he talked individually with Rep. Larry Kissell and Sens. Richard Burr and Kay Hagen regarding a number of key projects within Stanly County that needed funding.
Runway extension and runway repairs at the airport is one of those key projects discussed.
Making the Challenge Academy at the old National Guard facility off Badin Road is another. This project would bring 250-500 at-risk kids to Stanly County and give them one last chance. It would also bring a significant number of jobs to the county. To make the project a reality, water and sewer lines must be run.
Repairs to the Greater Badin Water system is another major infrastructure need for the county.
New water lines to Mission Church in western Stanly is the county’s next major water project and one that McIntyre pushed to our congressional leaders.
And finally, McIntyre said utilizing broadband technology within Stanly County for economic development was a major talking point.
As McIntyre said in ending his presentation to his fellow commissioners, “Hopefully, we’ll see some results.”
